SL :: Evolution of an Avatar
Click on the pics to expand.
So this is the one that started it all.. I had very little clue of what the fuck I was doing, and, let's be real, it's not a very good mod. The original Aventity horse was more of a bitch to mod than the new version, and when you're trying to do it without any kind of UV map... x_x But it's the start of it all. This was the day after my birthday, February 6, in 2010. This is 7 years old. You can find the original post about it here.
The next major update came when I found out about the Kani Pony Muzzle. Most people in SL met me with some variation of this head. This was May 29, 2010. So this is also coming up on 7 years old. This is the favorite head I've ever used, and I am still using a variation of it to this day. You can also see the first use of the Invisible Designs horn. I have used it ever since. Original post link here.
I did some minor updates on it over the next few months, so the next couple pictures and post links (if applicable) will be those.Post link, from June 7, 2010. This sheet is from an update on August 26, 2010.
I either didn't make a post about these, or I didn't tag it, but this and the next are with the legs from Eversky Aeon, and her 2.0 hooves. This and the next are from sometime around January 2, 2011.
This was a sort of random thing, when I was feeling not my best. I also wanted to play around with making a dark skin, so this kind of covered both bases. Again, no post, apparently... Flickr has a date of December 3, 2010 for the version of this coloration with the previous legs and hooves. I either never did a turnaround for the older legged version, or it's has been lost to computer moves.
One year after the original mod, on February 6, 2011, I switched to using the legs from the DSD ram. I would continue to use primarily these legs, except with the Raawr horse, and until the damn things made my avatar complexity shoot through the roof. No turnaround done for these, and there's that weird ass line on the right that my old laptop was doing... But here's the original post about them.
I know I was wearing the dark version, with the modded DSD ram legs, into July 2011, as there's a post in which I was updating the turn around for it. This was mostly because I had decided to change the hair color from white to this bluey-black.
August 20, 2011, I posted this to my Flickr. I was, for whatever reason, being a bad blogger and not posting anything. For some reason, I reposted it on Sept 25, 2011. But it wouldn't be the first or last repost I've made to that gallery! I was still flipping back and forth between the two colorations, because
February 11, 2012, I posted this to Flickr. It should look familiar, if you've known me for a while. This little Pony doodle, as a test of my adoptable base, was the start of the most "me" coloration I've ever done in SL.
February 26, 2012, I made the turnaround/reference sheet for her. Again, I was being a shitty blogger and didn't make a post to chronicle the history. I liked this look so much, it became my character's appearance outside of SL. I actually did her first ever actual reference sheet, based off of it, in May of 2012. I think that was the first thing I fully completed on my new PC. Using the technique I figured out in Paint Tool SAI on the linked picture, I made the dapples I've had in my store (and used on my avatar at times) ever since.
There was some weirdness in there... This was August 3, 2013, so it's been like a year and a half in this coloration at this point. I'd later swap those droopy ears out for the Aventity wolf ones, and go full doge. I started playing around with mesh bodies soon after this, since those were becoming a thing that was happening.
I even toyed around with being a Friendship is Magic styled Pony. She was this coloration as it was easiest to make fit that body, before I got into ever texturing it. And I never did. (Explanation below...)
November 1, 2013, the Raawr horse was released. I had it retextured before the release party was over. I did actually make a post, but as I've gotten irritated with Raawr and DSD since, those pics came down. That texture job wasn't my best but... I wouldn't have to live with it long.
At the very end of 2013, I had a really bad fight with my then friend and the owner of White Noise, Kendrix Darkstone. In the 3+ years since, I have realized what this was, in large part, spurred on by my now ex-fiance. Still. I fucked up. I really regret it now, more than I did then. I've sent an apology over SL, but she has not logged on in quite some time. I don't know if I should press the issue further. Still, this set me into a pretty awful state, so I changed my avatar to match how I felt.
In February of 2014, I made the decision to make some life changes. I changed up my SL avatar once again, going to the "canon" coloration for the character in my novel, towards the end when she's going through the worst part of her life. But she comes out in the end.
Notice, I'm still not really blogging here. I didn't change much of this avatar over the next while. I added the Blunderforge "Dat Lip" because, let's face it, that bare face is way too plain. Life was about to get crazy.
Before it did, I took a stab at modding the Aventity equine again. Went about as well as could be expected. I also bought my first mesh body part add on: the Lolas Tango breasts. That did, for some reason, warrant a blog post.
After getting back home, and setting up camp on my childhood friend's couch, I started my life over. ... I didn't feel that I needed to update my avatar just yet. So I threw together a reference for her, with the nice mesh boobs, and my new partner's stamp on her ass. I wrote a post in August of 2014 about the coloration, sorta.
There was really not a major update or change to the avatar until I moved away from using the Raawr head (because, seriously guys, fucking listen to your customers), save the ears as I haven't found a replacement I really like. This was in January of 2016. I mashed the Moufette muzzle onto the Chinchilla head. It's not perfect, they aren't supposed to be mashed together, but I've never been able to make the muzzle fit the moufette head.
I slowly added mesh parts. I added the Slink hands, and then the Slink body. I was never able to get the Blunderforge lip to fit the muzzle, but the Donut Steel one more than workable. Note, I'm still using the DSD Ram legs here. This would be the last update with them.
January of 2017, almost 3 years later, I finally decided to update my avatar a little bit. There had been some huge life changes. I had moved from my home state of Tennessee, to western New York, then to central Texas, with another move back to NY on the horizon, because fucking shit Austin is expensive. I'd had a baby (!!). I'd lost my father after a very short battle with cancer. It was time for some updates. I pulled in some hints of the 2012 version. For some reason, the retexture on the DSD legs almost doubled my avatar complexity, so I ditched them and temporarily used the Aventity legs.But wait. I sold those old colorations to help fund my getting the fuck out of my abusive relationship.
Fucking welcome back, SLSno.

SL :: Hunt Gift Previews!
I'm going to be participating in two hunts this October! One will be the Moonie Hunt, and the other is Quest Fur Cover.
For both hunts, I'm trying to cover men and women for gifts.
For the Moonie Hunt, I have some Sailor Scout themed bracelets, and a top hat! :3

(Inner Scouts)

(Top Hat)
And for the QFC Hunt, I have a variation of the Labrador mod! This is a Moasic/Chimera pattern.

If you miss either of these hunts, these items will be available for sale afterward. The lab's future sales, like the other labs, will go to benefit Marie Fairport in her quest to get her Diabetic Alert Dog.

SL :: Personal Mod Project
I have had a side project in SL for a while now: my "favorite child" from my novel, Adian. I announced that I was starting this back on August 13, 2013, then I apparently never updated the blog with further notices about it.
I never even uploaded the screenshots to Flickr, or my FA gallery. I wasn't very happy with them, but since I didn't realize you could use Local textures to test out uploads, I wasn't too keen on the idea of reworking them.
That's a thing, btw, in the Texture window, there are radio buttons, one says local. Click that, then the "Add" button and you can temporarily upload a texture to see how it looks on your prim. And if you re-save it, it will update automatically. Mina from the Moon Kingdom (where my show is) told me this and I think I want to marry her for saving me so many L$ over the past couple weeks.
Anyway, here are the original mods...

(Original AVentity mod.)

(Eyes I used in place of the AVentity ones.)

(Original Raawr wolf mod. I wasn't at all happy with the textures in the end, and I wound up just mostly using the AVentity mod.)
But now, I have this:

I took a lot more time on the skin. I used the fluffs that I created for the Lab mods, and completely redrew the belly/butt shading. The original belly/butt shading was from my Snowhawk mods, but I just (poorly) smudged the edges, which were very soft. This time, I started with a hard edge, and went around each edge individually.
The tail texture is completely redone, and the "fill" colors are not just flat textures.

If you can't see the detail on the face, click through to Flickr. I used the trick I discovered for texturing the Lab prim parts to make the prim parts not look so flat, but I'm purposefully avoiding looking super realistic. The same technique is used on the face, jaw, ears, and legs.
I left the edges "smoother" on places that would have shorter fur.
But yeah, I'm pretty proud of it now. I want to redo the AVentity leg textures, when I feel like I can be arsed to look at those files again. But for now, pretty happy with this bunch of textures.
I use personal projects to test things, though the Labs got the test for some of these textures. But as far as the skin goes.
You can click through any of the pictures to get to my Flickr gallery, and you'll find more pictures there.

SL :: Also, oops, I forgot.
I have a whole mess of broken pictures on the blog because I have been moving/deleting things. Sorry. ._.; I think I accidentally got my original mod pictures for the Raawr horse when I was cleaning up that gallery. NBD though, I don't actually use that coloration anymore. (In fact, I sold off 5 of my character's alternate colors.)
I said in March of 2014 that I would go over my "latest" coloration, and I apparently never did. Whoops. My life was getting kinda crazy around then, so it's understandable, I hope.
At the end of February, the 18th, judging by upload times on the files in my inventory, I decided to move my character to a "canon" coloration for her. She is from my novel, and this coloration is the one she has at the end of the story.
For a quick backstory, her species, the Delphin, go through what are called "phase shifts." These are physical changes to the individual, usually in the form of fur/hair color, sometimes eye color, and they occasionally gain wings and/or (a) horn/s. These events are brought on by both age (most all Delphin have a shift between 12 and 14 years), and environmental factors. Her cousin, Murial (formerly Nytehawk), had a second shift when she was extremely stressed by a situation she was in, for example.
So, typically, if a Delphin gets a second shift, it's by the time they're in their mid 20s, at the latest. They will typically not experience any later ones.
Unless something severe happens, like a broken horn, or a vampire's bite. (I call them vampires, they are technically not, but it's the easiest term to use.)
The latter definitely happened to Snowhawk the Character (not Sno the mun, I know it's confusing... :p). I'm actually debating on if the first will happen to her, since her horn type changes from her birth type of a straight amethyst core with a silver spiral to Phase 3's smooth, curved type. It would be a good reasoning. ANYWAY.
The coloration I have been using in SL since then is that Phase 3 coloration. I have lots of feels behind this coloration, and it has a lot of meaning behind it. Granted, it's a lot of emo bullshit, but the representation is still there. This is the last canon coloration she has. This is how she looked when the story ends.
So in SL, I've toyed with the idea of roleplaying her. I never really do, I can't take RP as seriously as I used to, and I don't feel that's fair to RP partners, but still... This was how I saw her in my mind.
All other colorations I've used since this one are non-canon. She has three (four if you could the very earliest flash black) colorations in the novel. And the rest are me being bored. And I get bored of them very easily. I've sold all the colorations I've used in SL except this one.
SL has given me a chance to develop characters beyond what I had done before. Even my malt Adian got a new hairstyle! It will be his canon hairstyle after his encounter with a particular character.
I don't know why I'm being vague, no one who reads this will probably ever read my novel. ("Nice and subtle, Sno." Thanks, I try.)
But yeah, I just wanted to post that officially. It's 5:30 in the morning and I should be asleep, but I am fighting it.

SL :: I made a thing!

I finally did a mod to sell! :3 I'm going to do several color, I think, but there's was a lack of donkey mods on the Marketplace. So I have decided to try and fix it.

There's a few more pictures on Flickr, but this is the v1, I'm calling it, of this mod. I'm going to add in a bunch of other textures for other equine mods. Soon. I'm tired rn. Been up all night working on this.
You can find it on the Marketplace here!
You can find it in world here!

SL :: New equine!
Finally, there's a new anthro equine on the grid.
Don't get me wrong, I love the AVentity equine, but it's been almost 3 years since it was released.
Raawr just released an equine avatar tonight (the first release party isn't even over as I type this), and I had a little extra from getting a commission, so I picked it up.
I'm not going to do a review, I'll let SLARF handle that, I'm just going to say I am VERY pleased with it and the build quality and now I'll spam you with quick pictures.
I already modded mine to look like my character... :3 Easiest mod I've done.
Edit: And, of course, I've made a halter for it.

SL :: Long time no blog, and a new product!
So, I finally splurged and bought a ~*Water Horse*~ avatar.
And, because I have this character, Ruby, who is a sorrel unicorn mare, I added a horn and made it her. Which meant buying the Arabian add-on pack... But that wasn't enough, she was a little too light, so I went to The Texture Barn and got the deep sorrel texture pack.
But, of course, I can't stop there... I went to The Pony Store and got three things: The Arabian neck sculpt, the sculpted teeth, and the sculpted tongue.
I added my horn, made it green, added the texture to my tail, made a "mane" until I can make some kind of sculpted thing for it and...
Whee, unicorn. :p
But, of course, I had to make the halter's fit.
I had to borrow a friend to make the draft one, since I couldn't buy the draft version, and I also used her as a model. (Thank you, Fancy!)
But, there you go, my adventures last night. :p

SL :: I think I got them!
So, while I LOVE Evers' faun legs, I htink they're still a little skinny for my pony av. So I'd been poking around at things... then I remembered I actually had the DSD ram on Snowhawk.
Hooray!
I pulled the version 2 of the solid hooves, since version 3 was a mite tall and deformed weird when I shrunk it, and plopped two on the ground.
Then I pulled out the legs and hooves from the DSD ram, pulled the ram hoofies off it, and then smushed around the "fetlock" area prim to fit the solid hoof. Re-textured really quickly, and poof! Stocky legs! :D
Much better for a pony. :3
Also, I updated my Marketplace store. Since the Teen Grid has been merged into the Main Grid, anything with adult content (or tags for adult content), has to be marked as such. Since my halters had the OpenCollar scripts, they fell into that. There are versions up now with NO scripts in their boxes. As well, all my in-world stock has gone "clean." The versions with scripts are still available on the Marketplace.

SL :: Shoes~
So, Eversky Aeon over at The Pony Store released some sculpted shoes for her sculpted hooves! :3
I just had to trot (...lol) right over and grab them! :)
(Pardon my giant assed invisiprim there. My hooves are very small, and Emerald hasn't been updated to use alpha layers that everyone can see yet.)
They're very cute, and perfect for my av. I was missing the silver flash when I walked with my old hooves.
Edit: Just as a comparison, here are my previous hooves, and my current ones, side by side.
(horsebutt)
My mesh foot is sticking out in the middle of the old hoof, so that's the strange purple there.
